Marriage
Elizabeth's surname spelled Budle on register. Marriage by Banns Thomas stated as "of St Enoder", Elizabeth "of this parish" (i.e Ladock)
Note
Per IGI, there is a marriage listed in Ladock of Eliz Budle to a Thomas Strebley 7 December 1816
Note
Wonder if Thomas came from St Columb Minor? No record of him in St Enoder births, but there were Stribleys in Minor.
Note
Likely he had a brother called Henry, born around the same sort of time... if that helps at all! 1841 shows a Henry Stribley and wife at Resparva Gate...aged 50, thus born abt 1790 ish 1841 entry - Resparva Gate,1,Henry Stribley,50,,Farmer,In county, ,,Cathrine Stribley,,50,,In county, Book 1 Folio 7 Page 7 ,,Mary Stribley,,20,,In county, ,,Eliz. Henry Stribley,4m,,,In county, Henry married Catherine BARRET (or Barrett) 29 Sept 1810 in St Columb Major Groom is listed as a miller (dets from Phillimores) IGI has a (submitted) record for the marriage, correct date for that, which claims Henry STREBLY born abt 1785 in St Columb Major
Note
Marriage witnesses given as - Abigail Hosken and William Courtenay
Note
Really exciting developments - courtesy of my birthday pressie (a sub to FMP). I stuck the two brothers - with approx dates of birth into the parish register baptisms and got some interesting results - Henry Stribley, baptised 23 Dec 1793 St Columb MINOR, parents George and Mary. Then I plonked in Thomas and got - Thomas Stribley, baptised 31 May 1784 St Columb Minor, parents George and Mary - and Thomas was noted as a twin. NOTE: Parish register gives John and Thomas and states clearly that these are twins. So I used the same date to find the twin and got a JOHN (i.e perhpas the same John who was a witness at Henry's marriage?) This is pretty exciting stuff - I might have solved the mystery of the Stribleys!
Note
See brother Henry's record for further details about parents etc.
Note
Looking at the names Thomas uses for his children, the males seem to be using the same names as the children of George Stribley - the possible father of Thomas and Henry, even including William - who seems to be another child of George.... plus daughter Mary - maybe after mother? Looks almost certain doesn't it?
Note
Hmmm.... The LDS (FamilySearch just emailed me with some tale about how I am related to a pioneer. This tale says that the father of Thomas is a William. However, since they have this William as being born in 1773, it is highly unlikely! They even have a warning stating that he married before he was 12! Maybe they should check stuff? Hilariously, they then have the same 1773 born William as being a son of that William.... Idiots.
