Note
Seems Charles Leonard was a bit of a rogue! At least 3 different women - Lily Quance Sarah Lilly Davis(?) aged 20 of Mill Court, The Warren, St Ives Ada Winifred Bilkey Whilst legally married to Sarah Lily, he "married" Ada Bilkey! At court hearing, he claimed the marriage to Sarah Lily was not legal - he had married her whilst drunk for a fee of £3 paid by her mother to him at the Registry Office, Penzance 30 December 1922. He lived with her for a few days then left and shortly afterwards met Ada March 1923
Note
Looks as though Charles went back to Sarah Lily before 1936 - Ada was back with her family then and there is a birth of an Alfred C Crapp - mother maiden name Davies - in Carmarthen. Could be a different Davies I guess, but unlikely. Especially when there is a death for a Sarah L Crapp 4th qtr 1968 aged 64 Pontypridd RD
Note
Some intriguing info from Andrea - Lilian born around 1901 in London. Later married a Joseph Moyes. She states that Len could have been his middle name (which it was sometimes!). She also states that he left Lilian and went back to his "wife" in Cornwall. Could that have been Sarah Lily Davies I wonder? There is a Sarah L Crapp (nee Davies) death in 1968 in Pontypridd RD. Other information from Andrea - Lena Elizabeth Mona had 2 brothers, John and Clive and 2 sisters Valerie Ann and Maisie - the girls died in their 20's it is believed. Len (Charles Leonard) was known as Mac because he worked on the tarmac (presumably with his steam roller). Andrea is unsure if Len and Lilian were married but one day she ran off with another man. Wonder if Andrea is slightly out with place of birth? There is a Lilian Janet Squance birth registered Sep qtr 1898 in St Germans 5c 28 Of course, this may not be her - but looks possible. Not her - she married a Richards in St Germans 1916...
Note
The bigamy cutting transcribed by me - ALLEGED BIGAMY Grampound Road Man Charged At Newquay At Newquay yesterday Charles Leonard Crapp, a steam roller driver of Grampound Road, and lately residing at Trevemper near Newquay, was yesterday charged with bigamously marrying Ada Winifred Bilkey of Trevemper, his wife, Sarah Lily Crapp, St Ives, still being alive. Sarah Lily Crapp, age 20, Mill-course, The Warren, St Ives, said she first met accused in August 1922 and on December 30 the same year married him by special licence at Penzance Registry Office. They lived together a fortnight, and she had not seen him since. Accused contributed (illegible – looks like 11s) a week for herself and child. For a time she had to put herself on the parish. Accused then sent 12s. 6d. a week up to three months ago. Ada Winifred Bilkey, Trevemper Bridge, said she first met accused in March, 1923. Accused's sister sent her a letter stating that accused was not a widower as he represented himself to be. Witness believed accused's statement, and they went through a form of marriage at St. Columb Minor Parish Church on February 9 of this year. Accused said his marriage to Miss Bilkey was carried out in a straight and sober manner. He claimed her to be his legal wife. As to his previous marriage, he alleged that Mrs.Davis paid his £3 while he was intoxicated to marry her daughter. He was handed money at the registry office to pay for the marriage, which he contended was not legal. Accused was commited for trial at the Assizes.

Note
Just to note there is a Leonard C Crapp birth registered in llandilofawr (11a 1792) Sept qtr 1927 with mothers maiden name Squance. This surname has raised its head before when dealing with "our" Len Leonard marries a Hilda Williams in Sep qtr 1953 in E Glamorgan and dies Mar qtr 1970 in Bridgend RD There is also a Lena E M Crapp registered birth (sept qtr 1929 Llandilofawr 11a 1759) with mother maiden name Squance. John D I Crapp Jun qtr 1931 Carmarthen 11a 1730 Florence R Crapp Dec qtr 1932 Carmarthen 11a 1664 who married John D EVANS Mar 1959 Carmarthen 8a 499. Child - Magdalen H Evans Jun qtr 1960 Carmarthen 8a 292 Valerie Crapp Sep qtr 1934 Llanelly 11a 1543. Would seem to have married Alan S G Stevens in Jun qtr 1955 Swansea 8b 1146 and using Thomas as a surname Then, we seem to go back to Sarah Lily Davis and get - Alfred C Crapp Sep qtr 1936 Carmarthen 11a 1492 who marries Carole A Abraham Jun qtr 1959 E Glamorgan 8b 447 Children Sian A Jun qtr 1962 Bridgend 8b 96 Lee David Sep qtr 1969 Bridgend 8b 31
Note
So the basics of Len Crapp's marriages are - Lily QUANCE 1919 who dies in 1922 Sarah Lily DAVIES late 1922 in Penzance (the allegedly drunk wedding) Ada BILKEY 1924 - the bigamous wedding Then the mystery wedding to Lilian SQUANCE - sometime in the late 1920s presumably but I suspect they were never married. It is then believed that Lilian ran away with another man and that Len went back to his "wife" - which seems to be Sarah Lily Davies (the Penzance one) All very confusing!
