Organized April 20, 1864, from surplus men of the 2nd Regiment Heavy Artillery. Attached to Provisional Brigade, 1st Division, 9th Army Corps, Army Potomac, to June, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 9th Corps, June, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 9th Corps, to August, 1864.
SERVICE.-Campaign from the Rapidan to the James May 4-June 12. Battles of the Wilderness, Va., May 5-7; Spottsylvania May 8-21; North Anna River May 23-26. Line of the Pamunkey May 26-28. Totopotomoy May 28-31. Cold Harbor June 1-12. Before Petersburg June 15-18. Siege of Petersburg till August 20. Mine Explosion, Petersburg, July 30. Regiment disbanded August 20, 1864, and rejoined original Regiment September 5, 1864.
