| Note | Had a message from Hilary which gave an interesting account from a letter which she had come across whilst collecting old photos etc.
In it, Nicholas W Lobb was asking for a customer (via her agent) to pay owed monies as soon as possible to help his financial position -
Hilarys message says -
I just thought I would let you know that I bought a small bundle of photos and letters connected to the LOBB family of Penpont, St. Mawgan at a carboot sale a few years ago. There is some correspondence from Nicholas W. LOBB to a customer via her agent. At one point he was telling her he was being threatened with the law if he did not pay his merchants "and you know what this means to me for I can't pay until I secure the money from Miss Ryves. I have always served Miss Ryves well and I believe she will now help me - seeing that I am in trouble - please ask her to send the money by return of post and thus spare me from the law". It is written on the back of a letter dated Dec 1898 from someone living in Cape Town. There is also a very old photo of two carpenters, possibly one of them is Nicholas LOBB. Do you have any photos of him to check if it is him or not? There are also some letters to Rosa and Marjorie from someone called Polly who was a cousin I believe who lived at St Just near Penzance. I haven't any connection with the family - I just collect old photos etc. |
